Ryan Estes Photography Blog bio picture

Welcome to the Ryan Estes Photography Blog

I'm Ryan, and you'll often find me with camera in hand.  I live and work in the greater Philadelphia area providing brides, grooms, and families with cutting-edge photography.  Here you'll find the latest images, news, and bits of this and that from Ryan Estes Photography.  Come back often -- there's a lot happening, both in my life and in those of my clients.

What sort of images can you expect to see?  That's a difficult question to answer... photojournalism + fashion, portraiture + landscape, documentary + candid... real people on the most important day of their lives, and genuine emotions shining through.

One thing is clear: these aren't your grandmother's wedding pictures.  (No offense to your grandmother, of course...)

Through Their Eyes Africa

Remember that documentary Born Into Brothels? If you don’t, you really should see it… it’s a fascinating story of a photographer who spent a lot of time with the children of prostitutes in Calcutta’s red light district, gave them cameras, and began to teach them photography in an effort to help them get out of the vicious circle of sex and drugs they were born into. Very powerful (and the film has some beautiful images, too).

A similar project is soon going to happen in Africa. David Hessemer is a photographer in Hawaii who is putting together a team of world-renowned photographers to visit some unreached places in Africa, and teach kids there how to take pictures of their world. Why? To quote their website, “Our hope is provide maximum exposure for those in the most need in this world in a way that communicates the uniqueness of their culture. We want to create a platform to get much needed financial help to the people we work with.”

Please take a minute to visit the Through Their Eyes Africa blog today to see how you can help. We’ve been given so much… it’s time to give back.

October 10, 2007 - 9:09 am Mary Anne Rudy - I grew up in Haiti. My husband and I are professional Photographers in Columbia, SC. I was searching for examples of Blogging and ran across yours and stopped to look because of your comments about your trip to Haiti. It's certainly a very needy country, but beautiful, warm and generous people. Your work is great!
