I used to love making mix tapes… still do, actually, though since we’ve traded in our cassettes for CDs and iPod playlists, something gets lost in translation, something wonderfully analog and earthy. When I made mix tapes for girls (and of course they were always for girls) there was always pressure to make sure they were chock-full (and I mean FULL… using a calculator to figure out just how much space was left on a side, and picking the perfect song to end side A) of amazing music. (I’d also violate High Fidelity’s mix tape rules and use the tape as a sort of classroom… a “You need to hear this music” type of thing.)
Then I grew up, got married, and never share music anymore. Until this week, when I discovered Blip.fm and am now cranking out tunes like a DJ who isn’t bound by FCC rules and can finally play whatever he wants. It’s a lot of fun to share songs I love, and hear music that my friends love too.
Have a listen (here’s my station)… then start spinning tunes yourself and let me know when you do!
Also, I fully intend to educate V on the best music out there… here the two of us are, Blipping away. (She wanted to add “Baby Got Back” to the playlist, but good taste prevailed.)
