Ryan Estes Photography Blog bio picture

Welcome to the Ryan Estes Photography Blog

I'm Ryan, and you'll often find me with camera in hand.  I live and work in the greater Philadelphia area providing brides, grooms, and families with cutting-edge photography.  Here you'll find the latest images, news, and bits of this and that from Ryan Estes Photography.  Come back often -- there's a lot happening, both in my life and in those of my clients.

What sort of images can you expect to see?  That's a difficult question to answer... photojournalism + fashion, portraiture + landscape, documentary + candid... real people on the most important day of their lives, and genuine emotions shining through.

One thing is clear: these aren't your grandmother's wedding pictures.  (No offense to your grandmother, of course...)

A boatload of albums!

Perhaps not a literal boatload, but a lot anyway! This time of year I always find myself up to my eyeballs in album designs, packaging up books to ship, and generally just enjoying the deliciousness of amazing, custom handcrafted books filled with my clients’ wedding images. I love it… even though I don’t get to hang onto them long before sending them out into the world.

When I got back from vacation last week I found several big boxes of books waiting for me, and thought I’d share a few with you. These first few are of albums going to brides & grooms.

Classic yet modern!

I like to keep my designs simple, elegant, contemporary. Ever see a wedding album from the 70’s? I don’t want to put out anything that’s going to look faddish and dated when it’s pulled out 20 years from now.

Here’s something I’m excited about: new parent albums! I spent a long time looking for a matted album that still looked modern and classy… and I finally found this beauty. I literally just started using them… this is the first one that I’ve had made, just this month.

Parent albums contain 30 5×7″ images, one per page. (They can also be made much larger, if you like.)

It’s worth noting that animal-friendly covers are also available. Leather not your thing? No problem! We can work with fabric, silk, metal, you name it.

February 27, 2009 - 12:47 pm Michael - They look great. What album company are you using for both the main and parent albums?

February 27, 2009 - 2:07 pm Ryan - Thanks Mike. I use Leather Craftsmen.

March 9, 2009 - 9:48 pm Jo Inouye - Hello, I really like your post about Leather Craftsman albums. Your work is stunning! I too was looking into using Leather Craftsmans' services. I ordered their catalog and found that the prices to design and bind the albums are really pricey!! Like $1,200 or something for one album?? Am I reading this wrong?? I'm a new photographer (obviously), and I'm just sorting through companies and trying to figure out who/what to use. I don't know that much about design, and so I think that I'll have to have my albums designed by someone. I just can't imagine charging my clients this much for one book!! Guidance? Thanks, Jo Inouye

March 15, 2009 - 3:14 pm Natalie Watson - Hey! I got this link from a LC email. I've been looking for a good parent album for a while and I really like what you have on here. I'm wondering if it is a 700?..but it looks like it has square corners so is it a 8500? Just curious.....Thanks!!

March 16, 2009 - 10:39 am Ryan - Hi Natalie, it's an 8500... such amazing books. :)

April 8, 2009 - 9:16 pm Natalie Watson - Thanks for your help Ryan!!
