Ryan Estes Photography Blog bio picture

Welcome to the Ryan Estes Photography Blog

I'm Ryan, and you'll often find me with camera in hand.  I live and work in the greater Philadelphia area providing brides, grooms, and families with cutting-edge photography.  Here you'll find the latest images, news, and bits of this and that from Ryan Estes Photography.  Come back often -- there's a lot happening, both in my life and in those of my clients.

What sort of images can you expect to see?  That's a difficult question to answer... photojournalism + fashion, portraiture + landscape, documentary + candid... real people on the most important day of their lives, and genuine emotions shining through.

One thing is clear: these aren't your grandmother's wedding pictures.  (No offense to your grandmother, of course...)

The Manor House at Commonwealth - Allison & Tom

You know how there are certain people you just enjoy being around? Allison & Tom are like that. They tied the knot on Saturday, and I’ve been looking forward to the wedding for a while now because I really enjoyed the time I spent with them at their engagement session. What a great day! It was beautiful (perhaps a little hot) but these two loved the camera… and the camera loved them.

The day was even more fun because I was working with a number of friends… Joy Moody joined me for the day (many many thanks, Joy, for your fantastic images), Pete Malone from First Floor Films made a major motion picture, and Erin Proud of Proud to Plan somehow took care of all the details and made it look easy.

Hair by Face the Occasion, makeup by Meghan Cahill, making my job that much easier!

One of my favorite shots of the day… Allison and her dad practicing their dance. I’ve still got ‘The Lovers, the Dreamers, and Me’ stuck in my head.

Another one I love… Allison’s parents taking a moment before the ceremony.

And then it was over to the Manor House at Commonwealth for the reception… they had a caricature artist!

April 28, 2009 - 10:44 pm Jo - Great photos, Ryan! I'm constantly checking your blog for new photos, and your work ALWAYS amazes me. A question from a fledgling to an expert: How do you get such natural looking vignettes?

April 29, 2009 - 7:55 am Ryan - Kevin - thanks, man. We need to get together again sometime soon. Jo - thank you! Natural vignettes... I use the vignetting tool in Lightroom to start with, then in Photoshop I usually do some burning in by hand. Sometimes, if it's needed, I'll use Kubota's edge-burn action as well. Hope that helps!

April 29, 2009 - 1:26 pm Allison - Ryan, thank you, thank you, thank you!!! We are so lucky to be able to relive our wonderful day through your beautiful photos. Can't wait to see the rest! -Allison and Tom
